Frequently Asked Questions
Does Mountains Move cover airfare?
No. At this time, Mountains Move does not cover airfare or travel costs to and from your program. We are, however, able to pick you up & drop you off at either Denver International Airport or Colorado Springs Regional Airport on the first and last days of your program.
What is the difference between The Journey & The Warrior Summit programs?
The biggest difference is the group size. The Journey program is for one individual guest, whom we pair with a veteran mentor and an outdoor guide. The Warrior Summit program is for a small group of 5-8 veterans, military members, or first responders whom we pair with 2-3 veteran mentors and an outdoor guide. Both programs are six days in length and many of the activities are similar, with the exception of an overnight campout that we offer in the Journey program.
The goal of the Journey program is to really focus on processing past trauma from service and overcoming obstacles/challenges in one's life. The goal of the Warrior Summit program is more geared towards building community with others who "get it" and identifying and clarifying what the "God-sized" purposes or callings are in your life and how God can use your unique experiences and story to make an impact.
What is the cost?
Our program costs are covered by generous donors who believe in our mission. Because of their generosity, we can currently offer our programs free of charge to attendees. We do, however, require a $250 fully-refundable security deposit in order to secure your spot for a program. This deposit is refunded to you upon your arrival or if you cancel within the allowed window of time before your program. We have unfortunately had to implement this security deposit due to very last minute cancellations, which greatly cost the nonprofit and keep program openings from being available to other veterans in need. If this is too much of a financial burden for you, please contact our team at info@mountainsmove.org. We are happy to review needs on a case-by-case basis.
Can I come even if the schedule appears "full"?
We publish a program schedule every year for our Warrior Summit and Journey programs for the ideal program season (i.e. during the best weather for Colorado). However, always feel free to reach out to our team at info@mountainsmove.org to ask about availability outside of our published program dates. We currently keep a waitlist for all programs, so if you aren't accepted into the original cohort of attendees for a particular program, we will still keep you updated when/if openings become available.
What does a program schedule look like?
One of the unique aspects of Mountains Move is that we tailor the week's activities to our guests' needs and abilities. Some of the activities available could include horseback trail riding, mustang training demonstrations, jeeping, hiking, camping, kayaking, snowmobiling (winter), skiing (winter), hot springs, and ATVs. We believe that rest and focused time in prayer/journaling/reflection are just as powerful as adventuring. Our schedules often include an entire "solo" day for guests to spend in nature with God.
What altitude is Mountains Move at?
Mountains Move lodging is located at about 9,000 ft in elevation. Activities during the week often take place at 10,000-12,000 ft. Please let our team know if you have any medical or physical concerns that may put you at a higher risk of altitude sickness or other adverse reactions to physical exertion at higher altitudes.
Is Mountains Move a Christian nonprofit?
Yes! Mountains Move is a faith-based nonprofit, and we unashamedly believe that faith in God and Jesus Christ is foundational for effective healing, transformation, and overcoming the mountains in our lives. That being said, we welcome guests from all backgrounds! You do not have to be a christian or familiar with christianity in order to attend.
Does Mountains Move have its own operation location?
Mountains Move is blessed to currently partner with some beautiful local lodging options in the Arkansas River Valley (Buena Vista & Nathrop). We hope to one day have our own operating location when/if funding becomes available.
Is there cell-service & wi-fi available during my stay?
It depends. For our Journey Program, guest lodging is located in a gorgeous spot down in a small, mountain valley. Because of this, there is very limited cell service and no wi-fi available. There is a landline.
For our Warrior Summit Program, guest lodging has mostly reliable cell service and some wi-fi capability. However, we strongly encourage our guests to refrain from wi-fi use during their stay with us for a more effective "digital detox."
